The Lake Eyre Basin is one of the world's largest endorheic drainage systems; closed drainage system which does not allow water to flow out to external water bodies; internal drainage system.
The basin has some of the rarest ecosystems of the planet.

The Lake Eyre Basin is just under one-sixth of our continent.
Australia's lowest point is Lake Eyre at 15m below sea level and usually contains only salt.
The Basin is mostly flat with stony and sandy desert regions.
