Flora & Fauna

Although the Basin's weather condtions might imply that there would be very few living organisms living in this area but the Lake Eyre Basin is thriving with lifeforms- flora and fauna.

Endemic species of fish found: 13

The Basin has many endemic species of plants and animals unable to be found elsewhere. There are also many weeds in the Lake Eyre Basin region but weed-control strategies are being sought out.

Spinifex Grasslands

Mitchell Grass Downs, Spinifex Grasslands and Acacia Shrublands are the most common plant species found in this arid and dry zone.
